FWAPFOUNDATION DONATES TO MILITARY FAMILIES IN NEED

Your Foundation aided the NAS/JRB by providing funds to provide gift baskets of food to military families in need.

Our own FWAPC member, Bob Wood, retired Navy CAPT, explained the program as follows:

“CMDCM Ellen Zubke is the Command Master Chief for NAS/JRB Ft Worth.  She is TD Smyers' Senior Enlisted Advisor, and sits on the committee he established to vet Service member and family needs on the Base.  The Base Chaplain chairs that committee, and there are representatives from around the Base as members.

Each year the Base receives requests for support for families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  Gift baskets of food items are made available through the generosity of groups like the FWAPF and individual contributions.  If needed, the NAS/JRB Religious Offering Fund is where some of the funds come from as well.  From what I understand, they filled a need for over 150 baskets for Thanksgiving, and have requests for another 150+ for Christmas.  Who gets these baskets is closely monitored by the Base Chaplain and the Base CMC, so just asking for a basket does not mean getting one.  They ensure that the need is real.”

The check for $7,500 will replenish the NAS/JRB Religious Offering Fund, which serves many of the needs of the entire base and its tenants. Heretofore, the funds were down to $500, and due to the economic downturn, were not enough to meet holiday requests. Foundation board members Don Shelton, John Kinnear and Roman Palomares presented the check to CDMC Zubke.
