BROOKE ARMY MEDICAL CENTER (BAMC) VISIT
While we had planned a bus trip visit to the Intrepid Center, we were advised by the staff at BAMC of an opportunity to visit with the “Wounded Warriors” in the hospital complex. However, since there were only four patients there at this time, they requested that we keep the number of visitors to a minimum.
The FWAPC Board agreed to send a volunteer group of directors to make the visit. Thanks to the generosity of Kip Hyde, CEO of Hawk Electronics, we were able to provide each of those patients with new IPods, along with our gift certificates and many Christmas cards from area children. We had enough to leave behind some for future patients. The good news is that they only had four “Wounded Warrior” patients, even though it meant putting our bus trip to the Intrepid Center on “hold” for a while.
The patients were very pleased with not only the gifts, but also the fact that we would come in person to thank them for their sacrifices. One patient had returned from surgery just minutes before we arrived. We had a chance to speak with his mother, present her with the gifts, and thank her for her sacrifices. All of them were quite impressed by the personal cards from the children. They were hand-written Christmas wishes, and “Thank yous.”
We could not have asked for a better reception and tour than we received from the very friendly and caring staff at BAMC. We will be back.
