HONOR GUARD MEMORIAL

At Freedom Plaza

On October 23rd, 2009, your FWAPC took part in the dedication of the Honor Guard memorial at Freedom Plaza, Fort Worth Alliance Airport. Your chairman, John Kinnear was the master of ceremonies, and speakers included Navy Capt. T. D. Smyers, Col. Richard Scobee, Ross Perot, Jr., and FWAPC’s own M/Gen. James Sluder.

The Honor Guard Memorial was designed by Zenos Frudakis for the Air Force Memorial Foundation. In addition to the memorial at Freedom Plaza, there are displays at the Air Force Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Air Force Academy in Colorado. In bringing the USAF Honor Guard Memorial to Alliance, Texas, Hillwood chose to develop Freedom Plaza as a tribute to not only the U. S. Air Force, but to all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

To this end, the wreaths located along the Wall of Values represent the branches of the United States military –U.S. Army. U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard.

Your FWAPC was well represented on this occasion, and proud to be a part of the dedication.
